Thank you to everyone who came out to celebrate our rowers at the Mihi Whakatau this week. There were a lot of emotions on show with the rowers and coaches speaking of their experiences over the season, followed by community members offering their support.

Twizel Area School rowers finished their season last weekend with a fantastic showing at the Maadi Cup. We can all be extremely proud of everything they have achieved, the future of rowing in Twizel in definitely in safe hands!🚣‍♀️💚🖤

On Monday, eight students from M1 and Room 5 had the opportunity to attend a 90-minute workshop with Brett Fairweather, AKA Mr Jump Jam, in Timaru.

Room 5 has started the training to become Peer Mediators. Their first 1-day session has been completed; the second session will be held next term. Once trained, the students will select whether they would like to take on the leadership role of Peer Mediator at intervals and lunchtime.

Ms Arkless and Year 13 student Monique van der Westhuizen joined other schools on the Level 3 Biology Crab Camp last week for 3 days of beautiful scenery, working on the behavioural responses of Half Crabs at the Portobello Marine Studies Centre in Dunedin. 🦀

Ākonga in Room 9 were showing their maths and art skills this week while making their own 30cm rulers, book marks and labels! 📏 🧮 🎨

Our rowers have all been showing their school values this week while competing in the Maadi Regatta at Lake Karāpiro. From dealing with broken oars to supporting their teammates, and mingling with Olympians!🚣‍♀️ 👏🏅

Room 5 ākonga have embraced the Maadi Cup quest that Twizel Area School is on. Whilst they could not attend in person, they have done everything they can to contribute to supporting our team at Lake Karapiro. 🚣‍♀️

What started with torrential rain and wind, ended with smiles and sunshine as M2 students embraced the outdoors on last week's camp! 🏕️

With winter fast approaching there is a great range of uniforms available new and second hand through the uniform shop. Bargains to be had and also a range of puffer jackets to rival macpac! All proceeds to Home and School.

Year 4 student Ryder experienced a once-in-a-lifetime event last Friday, after winning the MORE FM 'Live Like a Crusader' competition to be the ball boy for the Crusaders. 🏉

Twizel Area School had some slippery visitors this week when Wes, Brooklyn, and Kieran from Meridian Energy's Trap and Transfer Programme bought some NZ Long Finn Eels to show and talk about.

Fifteen students represented Twizel Area School at the North Otago Swimming Sports held in Oamaru last week. Our students were joined by other Upper Waitaki schools and we enter as a zone. 🏊‍♀️

It was the turn of M3 to go on camp to the South Temple Hut last week. 🏕️ You can read all about it from Year 9 student Jazmine Baikie's perspective, she took some pretty cool photos too!

Yug Thapa continued on his journey to a career as a tennis player last weekend, winning the 2023 Highgate Partners Otago Junior Tennis Open! 🎾

Eight students represented Twizel Area School at the Aoraki Athletics held in Ashburton last week. Schools from around the South Canterbury region as well as Waitaki Boys and Girls and St Kevins come together to compete.

Three actors from 'The Ugly Shakespeare Company' performed for the students from Year Five to Thirteen on Wednesday, March 15th. Their play, 'The Dream', was an interpretation of Shakespeare's 'A Midsummer Night's Dream', with the three actors playing a combination of 15 roles in the 50 minute performance. 🎭
