On Tuesday and Wednesday, Twizel Area School hosted Marianne Marot, from the Department of Conservation (DoC), who talked to various classes about animal traps.

This week, the students of Room 5 had an exciting opportunity to collaborate with Jenny Heng, a local resident of Twizel who works as an engineer at BECA. Jenny served as our esteemed Wonder Project STEM ambassador, guiding us through our first practical session.🚀

Hannah from MDC is continuing to deliver an interesting and informative program with our M4 students. This week they started with some activities around self-management, values and what they can and can’t control in their lives.

Middle school ākonga have been constructing clay tiles for the past few weeks. This project is assisting students in developing a variety of skills, including cutting, joining, glazing, and rolling out air bubbles. 🎨

Just like the rest of the Junior School, the students of Room 5 have embarked on an exciting mathematical journey over the past few weeks, delving deep into the world of fractions. 🧮

This week we welcomed North Otago Netball's Development Officer, Margaret, to Twizel Area School. She worked with Junior students from Years 1-8 on a variety of skills needed to play the game of Netball. 🏐

Friday night's Senior Formal was full of smiles, laughter, good times, and memories that will last a lifetime. 👠👗🎩 Well done to the Formal Committee for their organisation, making sure the event ran like clockwork!

Room 13 ākonga got creative on Friday and had a competition to build either the tallest or the most creative castle! The students had a lot of fun becoming engineers for an afternoon! 🏰

Room 4 students have been enjoying their exploration of the art style of Piet Mondrian this week. Ākonga learned about Mondrian's unique artistic approach, understanding the principles behind his compositions, and exploring the visual impact of his use of colours and lines.🎨

Year 11 student, Sadie Mason, has spent time with Room 5 and other Junior classes this term as part of her Gateway Sports Coaching Programme. Students have played indoor and outdoor games, including Room 5 favourites Bench Ball and Splat!

Students in M4 continued their Work Ready Programme this week, learning about how important first impressions are and how to be successful in the workplace. 👩‍💼👨‍💼

In a remarkable achievement, two promising athletes, Sadie and Kiara, have been selected to represent the North Otago region in the Under 16 Representative Netball Team. 🏐

This week-long event was aimed at raising awareness about the harmful effects of bullying, encouraging empathy, and empowering students to become advocates for positive change.

We're excited to announce our upcoming Sporting Raffle, an initiative aimed at raising funds to support various sporting opportunities and to acquire essential equipment for our school sports programmes.🏀🏓🏅

The Don’t Get Sucked In Poster challenge is an art competition for Year 7 – 13 students organised by the Asthma and Respiratory Foundation NZ.   They are asking young people to design a poster to highlight the risks of vaping to rangatahi.  This competition is an opportunity to learn more about vaping harm and share this information in a creative and impactful way.
