After 30 years, this week we say goodbye to one of our longest serving teachers, Denise Arkless. Thank you, Denise, for your years of service and inspiration! Denise's journey as a teacher at Twizel Area School began in July 1993, as she embarked on her journey to inspire and guide the young minds of Twizel. Her passion for our place and our people was always evident; this was rewarded when she secured a full-time position in May 1995.Later that very same year, Denise announced her resignation from this position and moved on to pastures new. A year or so later, she returned as Science and Maths Teacher - she couldn't leave us for long!! In 1998, Denise became the Technology Coordinator at Twizel Area School, continuing with this for a year.In 2008, Denise took on the position for which we know her best, as Head of Department of Science. Her passion for the subject and her extensive knowledge has been used to support probably thousands of students as they have progressed through school and into their next steps.Among all the Science-based work that Denise is a part of, she has also made a significant impact on the Area School community through her ongoing support of Leadership Camp and through teaching across the schools as a dedicated NetNZ teacher. We, of course, appreciate her so much for the work and knowledge she brings to School Camps and Outdoor Education experiences, as well as being an amazing and supportive colleague to work with.Denise's journey at TAS has been one of growth, adaptation, and unwavering dedication. Her impact as a teacher and a leader will be remembered fondly by all who had the privilege of learning from her. As she moves forward in her career, we wish her the best of luck and continued success in all her endeavours. Mackenzie College is lucky to be receiving you. Thank you, Denise, for your years of service and inspiration!
