St Agnes Secondary Schools Music Group entertained students in Years 1-10 this week. The group of 70 students are from three separate secondary schools in Port Macquarie, currently touring the South Island.

We were fortunate that they chose to visit us at Twizel Area School. They brought a choir, a Concert Band and a smaller Jazz Band. The hour-long performance was quite interactive, getting the students involved in a number of the songs. They played a number of pieces the students recognised - such as the theme to 'Spongebob Squarepants', a Grease Medley and 'We are Family'.

After the performance, the visiting students joined our Kapa Haka group. This was a chance for TAS students to show off our talents. The students learnt waiata and created some beautiful harmonies with our students. The touring group loved getting to see something that is special to the culture of our school.

Here are some comments from Room 5 students:

Chloe

I really liked Spongebob Squarepants and Smoke on the Water and the guitar. I liked watching in the theatre. I liked the trumpets and shaking the eggs and saxophone.

Aaliyah

I enjoyed the music especially the saxophone. There were two more I loved but I forgot what they were called. It was amazing that they came here.

Finn

My favourite bit of the music visit was the Sponge Bob Square Pants and the Smoke on the Water song and the drums. It was really cool to see everything. The whole time I was staring at the drums and the bass guitar.

Nurbu

I really liked the start because I like listening to guitars. I really liked the Smoke on the Water song. The electric guitars sounded really good.
