Our Twizel Area School rowers put in a phenomenal effort, going head-to-head with some of the best crews from across the South Island at last week's SISS regatta. One of the standout moments of the competition was the U18 Girls Double, where Kiara and Sadie delivered what was hailed as the "race of the competition." The duo held off three fiercely competitive crews to claim victory by just 0.2 of a second, with only one second separating first from fourth place – an absolutely nail-biting finish! With little time to recover, Kiara and Sadie were back in action for the U18 Girls Pair, securing a well-earned bronze medal despite encountering a couple of crabs along the way to add some extra excitement to the race.Hazel put in an outstanding performance in the U17 Girls Single B Final, powering her way to a well-deserved third-place finish. Lucia also competed well in the U16 Girls Single B Final, securing 6th place in a highly competitive field.Bryn and Luka impressed in the U17 Boys Double, setting a new personal best time of 7:35 in their heat. The U17 grade was packed with strong competition, but Luka showcased his talent by earning a spot in the A Final of the U17 Boys Single, finishing 6th with a time of 8:02.A huge congratulations to the Girls U18 Coxed Quad, who battled it out in one of the toughest events of the regatta and finished an impressive 4th in the A Final. Their strong performance has earned them a spot at the New Zealand Secondary Schools Championships at Lake Karapiro in just two weeks’ time – an incredible achievement!A massive thank you to all the supporters who came down to cheer on our TAS squad. Your encouragement and enthusiasm on the banks of Lake Ruataniwha were truly appreciated. Well done to all our rowers for their dedication, determination, and outstanding performances!
