Last weekend, Twizel Area School participated in the Secondary Schools South Island Rowing Regatta with schools from the very top of Te Waipounamu to the very bottom competing. 🚣

Racing kicked off on Friday, starting with our very own Dave White in the Under 17 single event. Dave has only been out a few times in a single prior to his race, and believe me when I say this is not an easy thing to do! We are super proud of his approach to his race, and he was amazing.

In saying that all our students should be proud of themselves, especially Luka who ended the day with the toughest of conditions with weather that made his event impossible to race in. Luka went into the final second fastest qualifier for the A final and had every chance to take out the title. I just want to say that Luka can hold his head up high, knowing that everyone in the squad and the school has his back and knows that he is a champion in our minds.

The Novice girls and Under 15 Quads are discovering what they are all capable of. Quoting Poppy, "That's the hardest I've ever rowed". Kai pai Poppy, that's what we are looking for!

Hazel Mason and Taylah Marsh won another bronze medal (their 4th this season) in the Girls Novice Under 18 double. Once again, very impressive girls!

The Girls Under 17 Quad had an absolute 'blinder' of a race, coxed by Jazmine Baikie who had an important job maintaining the composure of the girls, Kiara Thyne, Sadie Mason, Hazel Mason and Hazel Henderson who won by just .27 of a second.

Kiara and Sadie then went on to win a silver in the Under 17 double.

The Boys Quad, Double and Singles worked hard against more experienced rowers in the Under 18 events and made improvements on their times in every race. Well done Ralph, Jack, Bryn and Dave.

Maadi Cup is now just 10 days away, and our students will be training as hard as they can before the final regatta of the season. The excitement is building within the school and also out in the community...
