The Upper Waitaki and North Otago Athletics Days were recently held here in Twizel and in Oamaru. It was a great end to this year's athletics with some awesome results for TAS students.


Upper Waitaki Athletics

The Upper Waitaki Athletics, held on November 1st here in Twizel, was a fantastic day despite the unpredictable weather. We were fortunate to get through all the events, even with a few freezing gusts of wind. It was wonderful to step onto our school field and see a sea of bright red Twizel uniforms competing with enthusiasm. 

Congratulations to all the students who participated and gave their best effort! A huge thank you goes out to the dedicated staff who ran the events, the students who assisted, and especially to Josh for painting the track. 

A special shoutout to Erica for managing the results tent and expertly fielding questions from visiting schools. We also appreciate everyone who supported the sausage sizzle fundraiser, with proceeds going towards sports in 2025. 

We’re excited to welcome everyone back to Twizel for another successful event next year!

North Otago

On Monday, November 11th, a team of 18 students from Twizel Area School travelled to Oamaru to compete in the North Otago Athletics meet. This was a fantastic opportunity for our athletes to test their skills against competitors from larger schools, and they certainly rose to the occasion.

A big thank you to Bevan and Emma for volunteering their time to run a lunchtime training session with our students and helping them prepare for the competition. Everyone involved greatly appreciated their guidance and support.


Miss Smith and Mr. Robertson, who accompanied the team, reported that it was an incredible evening in Oamaru. Twizel Area School students performed exceptionally well, showing great sportsmanship and determination throughout the day.


Special congratulations go to Dom, who took home 1st place in the High Jump and 2nd in Discus; Troy, who dominated with 1st place finishes in both the High Jump and the 100m sprint, along with a 2nd place in the 400m; Henry W, who secured 3rd in the 100m; and Keziah, who earned 2nd in both the 100m and Long Jump events.


Thank you to all the parents who assisted with transport and to Bevan for driving the school van. Your support is invaluable in making these events possible. Congratulations once again to all the students who represented TAS with pride—we are incredibly proud of your achievements!
