Our students' sporting success doesn't stop when they step outside the school gates. From netball to aerobics, Twizel Area School is always proud of our students' achievements win, lose or draw!

From the Twizel Netball Club:

Twizel Junior Netball is expanding every year, we have 45 students playing netball this season ranging from Yr 3 - 10 adding an extra team from last season.

Playing netball is a huge commitment as these teams need to travel to Oamaru weekly for games. Our 4 Junior teams play on Friday afternoons and our Senior Volts team play on a Saturday. This year we have been fortunate to gain funding in purchasing new netball dresses for our players, thanks to Trust Aoraki and our Player of the Day vouchers courtesy of the Mow Bar.

Twizel Thunder is our Yr 3-4 team coached by Kat & Dwayne Burgess. They having a great season learning all the aspects of netball coaches are able to assist players on court in preparation for playing full-court games once players turn Yr 5.

Twizel Strikers is our Yr5-6 Team playing 6-a-side netball, coached by Chelsea Lousley & Soffe Shaw. Most Strikers players are playing netball for the first time and they currently are sitting 5th equal in the competition so far. Keep it up team!

Twizel Storm is a Yr5-6 team playing 7-a-side netball. This team is coached by Chelsea Lousley & Soffe Shaw and is working hard weekly, developing their skills amazingly. They currently are 2nd equal with a tough game this Friday against Kurow.

Twizel Lightning is our Yr 7-8 team coached by Kelvin Firman & Halley McEnry. This team is off to a great start winning all of their games in the first round by a considerable amount, with North Otago Netball making the decision for this team to move up a grade. Good luck playing in your new grade. Points are starting fresh so we look forward to seeing how you go.

Twizel Volts is our senior team consisting of Yr 9-10 players coached by Sarah Henderson and Nic Lyons. This team is dominating their grade winning their previous game by 40-14 against Excelsior Black and is currently at the top of their grade. Awesome efforts ladies!

We look forward to the remainder of the season and expanding the netball club again next year.

Zoe Wilson and Efa Wakins recently competed in the NZ Open Sport Aerobics Competition, here is what Zoe's Mum had to say:

Zoe Wilson and Efa Wakins have competed today in the Final NZ Open Sport Aerobic competition held in Christchurch. Both were entered in the Pre-Core Primary section, which had the largest number of Entries for any section. This was the first competition for both girls. Both girls did amazing and are super keen to compete again. Efa has blown everyone away and qualified 2nd for the finals, her performance  in the final was outstanding and improved on the heats, so fingers Crossed the Prize giving later this evening. Zoe didn’t qualify for the finals but has been an amazing support for Efa helping her prepare for her finals. With a top 5 placing Efa has qualified for the Nationals held later this year in Invercargill. Both girls are competing again in August. Their dedicated coach, Emily, has every confidence that Zoe will qualify for Nationals at this next Competition.

Both these girls or throughly enjoying this sport and are representing Twizel well. Out of a 100 entrained they are the only ones not from a city with a population of over 10000
