Our school was again fortunate to have the young tertiary health students visit as part of their wider annual Rural Secondary Schools program.

The Network is committed to looking at ways of improving the health outcomes of rural New Zealand communities, and it realises the backbone of these outcomes is a skilled, sustainable and efficient rural health workforce.

The young health students come from various rural backgrounds and are training in various areas, including dentistry, anaesthetist technician, nursing and physiotherapy. They talked about the programs that they are involved in,  the pathways they took whilst at school and the many rewarding careers in health.

After their talk, they set up various interactive workshops such as human anatomy, blood pressure measurement, reflex testing, and mould making for teeth. The students had fun testing the equipment on each other and completing various tasks.

Thank you to the Network for making this visit possible, and we look forward to seeing you again next year.
