M4 students ventured out on their annual camp last week, tramping from Lake Ōhau to Freehold, and back to Huxley Lodge. 🏕️ 🥾 As you'll see, a great time was had by all.

The M4 Tramp had a lake theme. We started at Lake Ohau and made our way up through Freehold creek to the Tarns just below the Ōhau Ridge. It was a steep climb from the top of Freehold and the cooler weather was welcomed.  As you can see from the photos we had amazing views for the 3 days.

On the second day, we climbed up on rock and scree to the Ohau ridge at 1800m and on to a small peak at 1930m. We celebrated our ascent with a welcomed snack and then the group split. Some students continued to Lake Dumbell to the North while a small group made their way down to a small unnamed tarn to the SouthWest. We enjoyed lunch and then returned back up over the saddle and down the challenging scree to camp our second night.

Our final morning dawned with an awesome sunrise and students chose between a ' more difficult ' and an 'easier' descent. It was tiring and long either way but most students were keen to get to Huxley to enjoy the comforts there.

We enjoyed two days at Huxley Lodge where students enjoyed the luxury of a bed and Mrs Schaar's home cooking! Activities at Huxley Lodge included canoeing, archery, and ziplining. 🛶 🏹
