The Room 5 and 6 tamariki had an exciting journey to Tekapo to end term 2, where they visited the Dark Sky Centre. This visit provided a great opportunity for the students to deepen their understanding and learning about Space, Stars and Matariki (their topic for the term)!

During their trip, the students engaged in various activities that helped them learn about the significance of Matariki, including its role in marking the start of the Māori lunar calendar and its cultural importance in remembering the past and planning for the future. The Dark Sky Project, known for its exceptional stargazing conditions, offered an ideal setting for the tamariki to learn about the night sky and identify the Matariki stars.

In addition, the trip allowed the students to spend quality time together, sharing kai and appreciating the beauty of their environment. This experience helped reinforce the togetherness and gratitude values central to Matariki celebrations.
