Two groups of students have visited the Puketeraki Marae in the last week. Year 7-10 students visited last week and Junior students this week, where they joined ākonga from Roxburgh Area school, Maniototo Area School and Lawrence Area School.

Students left Twizel at 6:15 am and drove to Karitane. We arrived and were joined by the other schools to be welcomed onto the Marae, this was quite a moving experience for some of our students.

We spent the day doing workshops in poi and kemu Māori a workshop on the powhiri process and a workshop on mahika kai and food gathering this workshop also included pepeha.

It was a long day but the students thoroughly enjoyed the experience. Thank you to Mrs Nelson and Matua Karatī for organising this experience for our students.

Room 9 student Ahorangi wrote a recount of her day:
Yesterday I went to the marae and I loved all the Māori games. There was a teacher and her name was Mrs Grump!
