Our youngest learners in Room 5 and 6 have had a busy and exciting start to the school year!

After an action-packed week, they enjoyed listening to a story and song to wind down and reflect on their learning journey so far.

A highlight of the week was running the Junior Assembly, where they confidently led the event and supported the tamariki who visited from TELC and Kindy on Thursday. It was wonderful to see their enthusiasm and leadership skills in action!

Swimming lessons have also been a big focus, with students making great progress in developing their water confidence and swimming abilities. Their growing self-assurance in the water is fantastic to see, and we are proud of their efforts.

In Room 6, students have been exploring number knowledge, working on addition and subtraction problems. They discovered that 2+2+2 equals 6 and that 9 minus 3 also results in 6! Through engaging activities, they have been learning key mathematical concepts, using words like "join together" for addition and "take away" for subtraction.

To support their learning, they have been using tools such as tens frames, counters, and other materials to demonstrate their thinking and explain their problem-solving strategies. Each day, they participate in calendar number work, where they explore the number of the day, recognise patterns, and practice sequencing by identifying numbers before and after, writing number words, and using tally marks.

Their enthusiasm for numbers extends to putting together a number train and solving puzzles from 0 to 20. It is inspiring to see these young mathematicians showcasing their learning and growing in confidence.

Ka pai, Rooms 5 and 6! Keep up the fantastic work!
