The Netty Fest went ahead last week in Oamaru, despite some inclement weather, with two groups of students from Years 5-8 taking part in the two-day event. 🏐

On Wednesday last week 8 Year 6’s and 7 Year 5’s travelled with a great team of supporters to Oamaru for the North Otago Year 5 and 6 Netty Fest. We were excited to be able to take Myah from M3 with us as one of our umpires - she did a fantastic job. A big thank you to Anna for being our other umpire, and Rebecca and Rob for being our team coaches.

We entered a Year 5 team and a Year 6 team. There were teams from lots of other schools including Glenavy, Waitaki Valley, Fenwick, Adrgowan, and Maheno.

When we arrived it started to rain and there was the odd shower of rain throughout the morning but it did not dampen anyone’s spirits and games were able to continue.

All teams played four games across the day. It was great to see the way the members of each team worked together and supported each other across the day.

“We played four games and we won three of them and lost the last game by one point.” Nina

“It was a fun time even though it was quite rainy. We slipped a few times but we got back up. We worked well as a team.” Efa

“I think it was very exciting and it was a great experience to go to it.” Aaliyah

“It was fun but we had to get up really early to get to Oamaru on time.” Emilie

“It was really fun because we got to wear cool dress ups.” Lottie

The two Year 7 and 8 Netball teams went to Oamaru on Thursday 10th to play in the Netty Fest tournament. Each team played 4 games each throughout the day, playing against teams from Oamaru Intermediate, Weston, Glenavy and Papakaio. The teams played well, enjoying the festival feel of the day. The event organisers commented on the positive attitude and behaviour of both Twizel teams, and how supportive they were of each other. Although not all of the results didn't always go the way they hoped, they still played with a lot of heart and had fun.

Special thanks to Poppy Staniford and Lily Burgess, who came along as our umpires. This was a brand new experience for the girls, and they grew in confidence as the day went on.

Thanks too, to the parent helpers who came and helped with team management and transporting the students.
