Junior students had an unforgettable experience in Tekapo this week at the Dark Sky Project, immersing themselves in the fascinating world of space, stars, and Matariki. 🌌

Students first watched a cool movie that taught them lots of amazing stuff about outer space and the planets in our solar system.

Afterwards, they saw the stars up close, which was super exciting! They played some fun games that helped them learn even more about space. But the best part was when they saw the recently restored Brashear telescope. It's been around for 125 years; can you believe it? Room 13 students said they felt like real space explorers!

The day ended with lunch and a play on the playground in the beautiful Tekapo weather. Hopefully, the weather will be just as good for all the Junior School classes to experience the trip!

Room 4 students had some great things to say about their day at the Dark Sky Project:

“Yesterday we went on a trip to Tekapo Dark Sky museum because we are researching space” (Henry W)

“There was a room that had projected images aiming at the floor. That was the coolest thing ever” (Louis)

“We went to a movie-like theatre room and the man started to move around the Solar System. He showed us the constellations and a short clip about the Big Bang” (Charlotte)

“The first room we walked into was a room with a big telescope. They said it was 128 years old. The man also told us about a wheel that moves the telescope around” (Seb)

“The second room was pitch black. I could barely see anything but there was some light on the floor that was really pretty. The man showed us the Matariki stars”. (Ayesha)

“We went into a room where we learned about stars and planets. The boys wanted to find the black hole” (Harriet)

“We visited a room with 4 big stars. I thought it was a hologram, but it wasn’t . We had to guess which was the sun” (Neil)
