The Southern Area Schools Tournament is a pinnacle event on TAS's sports calendar. This year, our journey led us to Tuatapere at Waiau Area School, where 30 students showcased their talents across various sports over three days.

Participating schools included Waiau Area School, Lawrence Area School, Roxburgh Area School, The Catlins Area School, and Maniototo Area School. The tournament's opening ceremony, a cherished tradition, featured entertaining skits from each school. The skits are often laced with friendly jests aimed at one another. This year, TAS presented "Area Schools Got Talent." However, Twizel's poignant waiata and haka were the highlights of our opening ceremony experience.

Thursday night saw students immersing themselves in a social gathering themed around the vibrant era of the '90s. This allowed students from the schools to interact in a relaxed atmosphere, fostering camaraderie beyond the competitive arena.

Celebrating Twizel Area School’s notable achievements:

  • 1st place in Boys Basketball
  • 1st place in Girls Basketball
  • 1st place in Boys Netball
  • 1st place in Girls Netball
  • 1st place in Squash
  • 1st place in Ki-O-Rahi
  • 2nd place in Hockey
  • 3rd place in Pool

We thank Mr. Metcalfe, Mr. van Mulbregt, Mrs. Frost, Chelsea, Monica, and Les for their dedicated support and guidance throughout the tournament.

Following the main days of competition, exciting news emerged.
