Our students' sporting success doesn't stop when they step outside the school gates for the summer. From Cricket to Gliding to Rowing, Twizel Area School is always proud of our students' achievements win, lose or draw!

Cricket

Charlie McLellan was selected to represent South Canterbury at a tournament in Christchurch during the holidays. They played 5 games, 3 T20's and 2 40-over matches. Charlie played very well and represented Twizel Area School with pride.

In one of the 40-over matches, Charlie's team played Canterbury Country and took 4 wickets for 9 runs off 4 overs.  He also took 3 catches in this match, 2 of these taken behind the wickets while he was wicketkeeper and one out in the field.  In this match, he also chalked up 22 runs, the third highest scorer in the match. In other matches he showed his batting prowess taking the spot of highest run scorer in 3 out of 5 games.

Well done Charlie.

Youth Glide

Allie Swain, Jack McLellan and Jayla Wright all attended the Youth Glide camp at Omarama airfield in the holidays.  Allie had a very successful camp going solo in a glider. She received a traditional drenching after her solo and also ended up receiving the top female student and the Georgeson Scholarship at the prizegiving.  Jayla continued working towards her solo and is doing well.

Jack who completed his solo last year completed his single-seat conversion which means he can take a single-seater glider up solo.  He also sat and passed his cross country exam and continued working towards his QGP Qualified glider pilot certificate.

The students all enjoyed camp and were offered some fabulous opportunities.

Rowing

It’s been an impressive season so far for our rowers who all managed to qualify for the ‘A’ finals at the South Island Championships with some very impressive racing. Then, on Finals Day sweep up three golds, two silvers and a bronze.

All the hard work and training is certainly paying off but we haven’t finished yet as the NZ Rowing Champs are just around the corner.

Watch this space!
