On Tuesday April 4th, the Year 11 and 12 Drama students participated in the Aoraki SGCNZ Sheilah Winn Shakespeare Festival, in Geraldine. The two groups each performed scenes from 'Romeo and Juliet'. 🎭

Unfortunately, due to being slightly over time, the Year 12 group of Ariki Curtis, Ella Ferguson and Josh Murray were disqualified for qualification from moving onto the Wellington festival. However, they are already looking forward to next year!

Josh, however, was selected as the Aoraki representative in the NSSP (National Shakespeare Schools Production) to be held at Scots College in Wellington from September 24 to October 2 this year. SGCNZ's NSSP is a week-long intensive course, studying aspects of Shakespeare's works and three of his plays. Josh will participate in workshops throughout the week, and rehearse for a public performance of scenes from the play his group has studied, at the end of the week. There are only 46 students chosen to participate in NSSP - 24 students are chosen from each regional festival, and the remaining 22 students are chosen from the National Festival during King's Birthday weekend. From this week, a group of 24 students are then chosen to form SGCNZ Young Shakespeare Company, which travels to the Globe every year. Lily Brophy and Louie Skinner are making this trip to the Globe this year. We are really proud of you, Josh!
