Bevan is pleased to introduce himself as the Acting Deputy Principal — whether he’s a familiar face or someone you’re meeting for the first time. Kia ora koutou,It’s a real pleasure to be back at Twizel Area School as Acting Deputy Principal while the search for a new Principal is underway.Over the past 10 years, I’ve had the privilege of being involved with TAS in a range of roles—relief teacher, sports coach, board member, and parent. It’s a community and school I know well and care deeply about.I’ve worked in education for over 24 years across a variety of schools around the world, and I’m excited to bring this experience to support the staff, students, and wider school community during this transition period.Much of my career has centred around boys’ education and pastoral care. I began teaching at Nelson College in the Prep School and worked in the Senior School boarding house to help pay off my student loan. That early experience sparked a 15-year journey working in boarding schools across England, Kenya, and New Zealand. Prior to moving to Twizel ten years ago to establish SkyScape, I spent five years teaching and managing the boarding house at Waihi Prep near Timaru. More recently, I’ve enjoyed teaching stints at both TAS and Omarama School.I’m looking forward to reconnecting with familiar faces and meeting many new ones over the coming weeks. Please feel free to stop and introduce yourself when you see me around the school—I’d love to say hello.Ngā mihi nui,Bevan Newlands
