M1 students have been busy learning and writing, about poems inspired by Siksika Chief and diplomat Chief Crowfoot.

Isapo-muxika (Crowfoot), Siksika chief (born circa 1830 near Belly River, AB; died 25 April 1890, near Blackfoot Crossing, AB). Known more commonly as Crowfoot, Isapo-Muxika was a Siksika chief and diplomat who negotiated with the federal government on behalf of the Blackfoot Confederacy. He was a key link between Indigenous peoples on the western Plains and colonial forces by way of the North-West Mounted Police and was a key negotiator and supporter of Treaty 7.

What is life?

It is a baby's first time opening his eyes.

It is rain disappearing at sunset.

It is the last time to see the sun.

Jun Liang

What is life

It is your first breath into the world.

It is going for a walk in the hills.

It is a swim in the ocean.

Fletcher Yates

What is life?

It is a gentle wave on a sandy beach,

It is the sway of trees in a breeze,

It is the roar of a lion in the middle of the night.

Dominic Newlands

What is life?

It is the leaves dancing around the meadow in autumn.

It is a sweet melody sung by a wee bird.

It is a little girl giggling in the long grass.

Nina Brown

What is life?

It is the new born animal's first glimpse at life.

It is a rabbit getting shot for food for families.

It is a big red stag living in the hills hoping to not be found and shot.

Ollie Waldie

What is life?

It is a river winding its way to the ocean.

It is a kahikatea tree stretching above the forest canopy.

It is a smile on the face of someone who has known great sadness.

Mrs Nelson

What is life?

It is the joy of being part of a family.

It is the little things that make your day.

It is a world where you can be anything.

What is life?

It is a blue sky cover with clouds

There is a bright sun and a dark moon.

It is where the birds fly every sunny day.

What if life?

It is a moon shining in the pitch black night

It is a the day to die in the night

It is the gentle pink of spring blossom.

What is life?

It is a new path waiting to be discovered.

It is breathing fresh air.

It is exploring and adventuring in the wilderness.

What is life?

It is the first rainbow after a storm.

It is the snow melting on the mountains.

It is the sun breaking through the fog on a cold winter's day.

Brydie Ferguson

What is life?

It is a flash of a car.

It is a smile that will never fade away.

It is a dark replicating sketch that always tends to cling.

It is a ghost waiting for its arrival.

Tia Henry

What is life?

It is the sunrise that comes to shine on the sunflowers .

It is the sound of the ocean waves coming on the hot sand in the summertime.

It is a cold breeze in the winter time in the morning .

It is the feeling of being scared ones in your life

It is the moonlight in the dark freezing night in the winter time.

Aaliyah Heremaia

What is life?

It is the dewdrops falling from plants.

It is birds soaring through the sky.

It is the silence before dawn.
