The Ministry of Education has awarded UC's Child Well-being Research Institute funding worth $10 million to extend its innovative research-based approach to how Aotearoa New Zealand tamariki are taught to read.

The funding will support upskilling around 5,000 teachers and literacy specialists in the Better Start Literacy Approach.

Prof Gail Gillon says “It will help lift the literacy skills of more than 70,000 children by 2023.” https://bit.ly/36LiYDs #UCResearch #UCEducation

Twizel Area School is excited to announce that we are one of the schools benefiting from this funding and teacher professional support.

We’ve just started our pathway – watch this space for some awesome outcomes!
