The Home and School Committee have some updates from the first few months of the year, plus a look forward and ways where you can get involved in fundraising.

A word from the Chair

To the families of Twizel Area School,

The last 6-8 months for Home and School has been incredibly productive and I wanted to take this opportunity to let you know what we are all about, what we have achieved and our plans going forward.  I will endeavour to do this every term.

Firstly a reminder of our aim:

  • To bring about co-operation between the home, school and community.

  • To organise fundraising for the benefit of the school and students.

On the 3rd of April this year, we had our first AGM and formed an amazing committee made up of hard-working parents and teachers, however, we have noted our committee is completely made up of women and all primary and middle school parents.  We would love to extend this committee to have senior school representation, so if you are interested, please let us know. This commitment will be fun, giving you a great sense of purpose, achievement and knowing it is directly benefitting your child’s educational experience!

Going forward too, we aim to create a sub-group for those in the community who would be interested in volunteering with fundraising initiatives on the day - without the planning or belonging to a committee - a Friends of the School - more to come about this on our Facebook page next term.

Please see all the ways that you can also support us in passive income via various networks highlighted in this newsletter, and if you could share these widely with family and friends, this will help.  A reminder - we are a part of the schoolfundraisingshop.org.nz - visit the site - sign up - BUY - you get 15% off your first order, and our school gets 10% of the purchase! Please ensure you select Twizel Area School. It is initiatives like this where everyone wins.  They have awesome unique products, great gifts for kids' birthday parties, Xmas gifts, baby gifts etc. Be sure to check it out.

Lets continue to make Twizel Area School a brilliant place for our children, have a safe and fun holiday.

What we have done

Twice we have given directly back to the kids by providing fun discos! Next time we would love to extend this to Middle School students too.

We have raised over $4000 in various fundraising events, including hot cross bun sales ( a massive thanks to the Twizel Bakery), sausage sizzles, discos etc

We have donated:

  • $1000 to our rowing team to attend Maadi, given their amazing success and short time frame to raise funds.
  • We have purchased equipment for the ‘Junk Playground’
  • We put forth $1400 to facilitate this year's EPro 8 school challenge
  • Currently awaiting quotes for sandpit covers

Coming up

Keep an eye out for a new Facebook page for Home and School, where you can keep up with all that we are working on and have an opportunity to pick and choose some events you would like to help with.

Going forward, we need to seriously ramp up our fundraising as we have a massive target of trying to purchase new furniture for our BRAND new school.

Save the date - In the next term, we will confirm a date for an upcoming community social event that will be a major fundraiser for us to end the year, so don’t lock in your end-of-year function until you have seen this!

If you, as a family or a business, have any ideas of how we can continue raising funds or wish to donate to the Home and School Committee, please feel free to message us.
