Following the government's announcement that the 7-day isolation period is no longer mandated, schools ask for a common sense approach to covid from whānau.

The Ministry of Health's general recommendations are a minimum of 5 days of recovery following your positive test to promote long-term health and recovery. Here's a link to their information page: https://covid19.govt.nz/testing-and-isolation/if-you-have-covid-19

At school, we still work in close quarters and with vulnerable young people and adults at school. We'd like to maintain our lower levels of covid so that the school remains operational for everyone.

What we can do:

  • Have only healthy staff at school
  • Encourage hygiene practices
  • Ventilate our spaces
  • Provide RAT tests if required (limited stock) - for Year 1-6 students this is for home testing by a parent, for Year 7-13 students this is by optional self-test at school
  • Isolate unwell students for parent collection

What you can do:

  • Monitor for symptoms (even if mild) and test if necessary
  • Stay at home if sick or until your symptoms are as follows:
    • no fevers (without fever-reducing medication such as paracetamol)
    • minimal cough/sneeze
    • minimal runny nose (i.e. does not require removal of mask or respirator to wipe)
    • feeling well enough to return to school.
  • Keep the school informed
