There will some staff changes at Twizel Area School when the new school year begins in February 2022.

At present Mrs Smit is on leave from the school. She has requested and been granted a year’s refreshment leave for the 2022 school year – we wish her well for this and look forward to seeing her again in 2023.  Her classes have been informed and there is a learning plan in place for them including study access with her via zoom through to the end of the year. If there are questions relating to the English learning programme, please refer them to Kay Potter ([email protected]), pastoral support can be referred to the relevant Dean (Middle School - [email protected], Senior School - [email protected]), and queries of a more general nature to the main office ([email protected]). Thank you for your understanding at this time.

It is with sadness that we announce the retirement of Bruce White at the end of 2021. Bruce is a ‘world famous in New Zealand’ Technology Teacher who placed Twizel on the educational map with his hovercraft project (amongst many other amazing pieces of work). Bruce’s retirement will be celebrated at our end of year Prizegiving events.

Mr Pete Johnson, our fabulous Maths teacher, is heading back to Mountainview High School in Timaru to take on a teaching position. I know the students will be absolutely gutted to lose him, but he has made the (sensible) choice to prioritise being with his family in Timaru over his huge weekly commute. Pete’s contribution to TAS will be celebrated at our end of year Prizegiving events.

At present, we’re advertising to fill these positions, or in the process of interviewing / appointing.
