Head Student Billy looks back at a busy final week of Term 3, including Crazy Hair Day, Science Fair and the Student BoT Elections. 🧑‍🎤🔬🗳️

Kia ora,

Welcome back to another week at Twizel Area School. With the end of term right around the corner, things have been wrapping up around the school, with many looking forward to the well-deserved break. Despite this, the school is still abuzz with activity from many members of our community. Monday this week, our students had the opportunity to visit the InZone Careers Bus for useful information and insight on the possible careers they could take in the future. People from outside the school coming in to teach us about career options is something that is greatly appreciated; I’m sure everyone who went feels the same way. The entrance to the school has also been lined with science fair projects; it has been very nice to see the curiosity and scientific thinking of our students take form. I hope everyone who was involved with this had a great time; the sciences are fun and rewarding subjects, and I hope that this experience has inspired some of our students to study in these fields. Additionally, it was great to see the wacky hairdos for Crazy Hair Day yesterday; some of our younger tamariki had especially entertaining cuts. All raised money has gone to the Kids Cancer Foundation, which is simply a feel-good for all involved. Ka pai, everyone!

Student leadership positions for 2024 have also been getting decided recently, with Student Board Representative and Head Student positions being debated and voted on by the school community. Congratulations to Year 12 student Ralph Henderson for winning the Year 7-12 popular vote in this year’s Board Rep elections; I wish you the best of luck for 2024 and hope that you will represent student issues truthfully and with pride. Apart from this, I hear lively debate has been going on between the possible candidates for our Head Students/ Leadership Team Members for 2024. I wish all those going for a reputable position the best of luck! No matter who gets in, you shall represent the school with pride and provide valuable leadership skills for the future of Twizel Area School.

As all should know, the last day of Term 3 is tomorrow, September 22nd. Primary Assembly is at 1 pm, and Middle/Senior Assembly is at 2 pm. Both are in the Community Centre Theatre. I hope everyone who has worked very hard over this past term will be justly rewarded for their efforts. Term 4 commences on Monday, October 9th. After everyone enjoys a good rest over the holidays, I will be looking forward to seeing everyone back for Term 4 ready and rearing to once again commence their studies.

Kia pai te wiki!

Head Student,
Billy Garbutt
