This week, Room 5 students took their turn to travel to Tekapo Springs for their day of fun and ice skating. Read what some of the students thought about the day.

Lottie

“On the 21st of August, Room 5 went to Tekapo Springs on an ice-skating trip. We all got our skates and a frame and got on the ice. Near the start I taught one of my friends how to skate. She was slipping over like a wet tissue ripping in the water. We both got the hang of it and we were skating without our frames and so was everyone else in the class.”

Millie

“When we arrived we got a safety briefing then we put on our ice skates then headed onto the ice. I stepped onto the ice and nearly fell over - it was very slippery. It was a lot harder than I remembered. I didn’t even know how to move. Once a friend showed me what to do it was actually quite easy - step, glide like on roller skates. I felt more comfortable skating but definitely not my feet - they were sore. I had blisters everywhere. A friend encouraged me to ice skate without the frame so I let go and we skated across the whole rink. It was awesome.”

Emilie

“Efa and Noah challenged each other to a race and Efa won. They were going so fast that they both crashed into the wall on the other side of the ice rink. Efa, Mia, and Aaliyah went and asked if they could request a song. They said yes. We asked for Stitches (because of our band). When all the boys heard we had requested a song and they played it, they went and asked for “Let it go”, “Wheels on the Bus”, and “Baby Shark.”

Finlay

“We had to get our ice skates on. First I tried size 5 and they didn’t fit so I tried size 6 and they fitted perfectly but I couldn’t tie the laces up because they were ginormous. Troy helped me to do them up. Finally we got on the ice and at first we were in the shade so it was cold but then the sun showed its bright yellow colour and I suddenly felt boiling. I remembered how to do a 360 so I tried and did it. Then I taught two friends how to do it and they did it on the first try. We put on a show in front of some other kids.”
