M1 ākonga were finally able to go on their long-awaited, COVID disrupted camp last week. They were treated to superb weather, and they even encountered snow along the way! You can read Year 7 student Paige Firman's recount of the week here...

On the M1 camp, we went on a 3 and a half hour tramp up North Temple. There were quite a few river crossings on the way, and a snow encounter. When we got to the camping spot we set up our tent, and then we made some milo before going on a little walk. We walked until we reached the snow. It was very cool because we could see under the snow and there was running water. On the way back we convinced Mr Frost and Mrs Arkless to go swimming in the glacier river, which was surprisingly not as cold as we thought it would be.

The next morning, we packed up our stuff and headed back down the mountain. On the way back we went a different way, which meant a whole lot more river crossing, which was fun. When we got back we went swimming at Lake Ōhau and stayed at Huxley for a night which was lots of fun. When it got dark we played spotlight, and then went to bed. In the morning we went on another little walk then packed up and went back to school after another swim at Lake Middleton.
