Seventeen dedicated TAS swimmers took part in the North Otago Swimming event yesterday, joining over 200 students from schools across the region. This competition is a fantastic opportunity for young swimmers to test their skills against peers from all North Otago schools, and our athletes made the most of it with some incredible performances.

A huge thank you to the parents who traveled to support our team. Having a strong cheer squad on the sidelines makes all the difference, and it was wonderful to see such encouragement throughout the event.

We would also like to extend our gratitude to Swim Ruataniwha for generously donating bright yellow swim caps. These caps not only gave our swimmers a sense of unity but also made it easy to spot them during their races.

Special recognition goes to Mr. Byrne, who has been coaching our swimmers during early morning training sessions. The dedication and effort put in over the summer season were clearly reflected in the outstanding results achieved by our students.

Among the standout performances:

  • George Frew, Jaimee Pooley, and Henry Scarlett each secured 1st place in a stroke.
  • Jaimee Pooley, Oliver Currall, and Henry Scarlett claimed 2nd place in a stroke.
  • Dominic Newlands, Summer Smith, and Sebastian Irving finished strong with 3rd place finishes.

Beyond these podium finishes, we had numerous swimmers placing in the top 10, highlighting the depth of talent within our team. It was especially exciting to see our students competing off the professional starting blocks, adding to the experience of a high-level event.

We wish the best of luck to those who will be selected for the Otago Primary School Swimming Championships in April. This is a massive achievement, and it has been several years since TAS has had swimmers competing at this level. Their hard work and dedication have certainly paid off.

Congratulations to all our swimmers, and we can’t wait for another exciting season ahead!
