Over the past couple of weeks, TAS students have travelled to Timaru to take part in the Aoraki Basketball and Netball tournaments, both ending with fantastic results! Aoraki BasketballWhat a fantastic day for our Basketballers who represented our school proudly at the Aoraki Basketball Tournament. Schools from all around South Canterbury and the Waitaki played their hearts out in a fast and furious fashion to try and claim the top spots on the ladder. Both the boys' and girls' teams started well, with a clear win for the boys and an exciting draw for the girls. As the competition progressed both teams realised they had stiff competition from the bigger schools. Not that our kids were too perturbed. They listened intently to their coach's wise words, the wonderful and experienced Les Andrews and then tried their best to rattle the opposing teams with their impressive skills, resulting in more wins and a few losses throughout the day.In the end, the girls placed a respectable 6th out of the 8 talented teams, and the boys fought valiantly to place 4th out of the nine very strong boys teams.Mrs Frost, Les, and I were extremely proud of the teams who represented our school courageously on the court and also of the way in which they conducted themselves off the court. It was an absolute pleasure to cheer them on from the sidelines and chaperone them throughout the day. I especially loved the singing in the boys' van on the way home!Sarah HendersonAoraki NetballLast Sunday, nine students represented Twizel at the Aoraki Netball Tournament in Timaru. Competing against high schools from the Timaru and Oamaru regions, our team showcased exceptional skill and determination. The B-grade competition was divided into three pools. We navigated through our pool matches successfully, winning against both teams, which secured our place in the top three to compete against other pool winners.Despite a challenging start in the final match against Craighead, I'm delighted to announce that we finished undefeated, clinching the Aoraki Championship B Grade title. Results:Twizel 18 vs 12 Roncalli BTwizel 18 vs 8 WGHS B Twizel 15 vs 10 Mackenzie CollegeTwizel 18 vs 11 CraigheadA special thank you to Karatī, Nic, and Sarah for their support during the trip, and heartfelt congratulations to the TAS Senior Netball Team for their outstanding achievement.Chelsea Lousley
