Head Student Kiara Thyne reviews the last couple of weeks and reiterates the importance of our waka values when representing the school in sports events, specifically Whānaukataka. Kia ora everyone! As the term is hastily coming to an end, I’m very excited to be writing the last newsletter before the holidays commence. After the last few weeks being increasingly busy and hectic, I’m certain parents, teachers and students alike are all looking forward to a well deserved break. It’s been a very sports-heavy few weeks with lots of swimming, athletics and rowing events occurring. And next term, we look forward to that again. Especially with the excitement of the SAS tournament coming up! I want to congratulate all those who have been selected to compete in the tournament team. This is almost always a highlight of the term for many students and I encourage everyone to make the most of the entire experience.I also have been very fortunate to be one of the rowers that have just returned from the Maadi Cup after what I would call a very successful week. In light of my experience at Maadi and the upcoming SAS Tournament I want to reiterate the importance of our waka values, specifically Whānaukataka in events like this. This value to me represents a sense of community among our peers and other schools when competing, which is something that is a huge part of both Maadi, SAS and other sporting events which Twizel students compete in and look forward to. Whanakataka has taught me and others a very valuable lesson about the community of competition which I think is a very important thing for students to remember, while participating in these things.I wish everyone a relaxing holidays, make sure to work hard in the last 2 weeks of term!Kiara Thyne,Head Student
