Cyclone Gabrielle hit New Zealand on Monday, 6 February. It affected a third of New Zealand's population. Hawke’s Bay, Coromandel, and Northland got hit the worst. 60,000 homes in the north island had no power for several days. There was 400mm of rain and strong winds getting up to 133 km overnight.

Cyclone Gabrielle went from Monday, 6 February to Thursday, 16 February.  It started in Auckland and started to spread across New Zealand. It hit Whangarei, Auckland, Hamilton, New Plymouth, Rotorua, Ruatoria, Napier, Palmerston North, Gisborne, Wellington, Hawkes Bay, Coromandel, Northland, and Westport.

The authorities found a fireman trapped in a landslide. 28,0000 homes still don’t have electricity due to the Cyclone Gabrielle (20/2/2023). There have been seven fatalities due to the cyclone, including a child as young as two years old which is very sad. Furthermore, 6,000 homes are still not contactable.

Cyclone Gabrielle encountered New Zealand as a powerful subtropical storm after transitioning from a tropical cyclone. Rainfall from the still-powerful storm began falling on the island nation on February 11 and continued for the next several days.

"Our immediate focus has been undertaking lifesaving missions for those affected by the floods who needed to be rescued," said Prime Minister Chris Hipkins.

It is a terrible thing that has happened, and sadly there could be more rain coming for Auckland, I hope all people are now safe
