Seven of our students were selected to represent Twizel Rowing Club at the NZ National Rowing Championships to be held at Cambridge, Lake Karāpiro, after epic performances at the South Island regatta, where they won three golds, a silver and three bronzes.

The competition was extremely tough, but our kids managed the highs and the lows that come along with this high-pressure sport incredibly well.

Ralph, Jack and Troy Smith were in the thick of it racing in the Mens Intermediate events. Hoping for podium success against strong competition, the boys can hold their heads up high with 'top ten' placings in the country.

Hazel Mason and Taylah Marsh rowed out of their skin, coming from sixth place to storming home in the last 300 meters to grab the bronze in the Women Novice Double.

Troy Smith was nabbed up by the Cambridge club Women's Intermediate crew, who were short a coxswain, and then proceeded to win a bronze medal in the final. Super cool to see Troy up on the podium!

Going into the competition with some uncertainty, competing in an experienced field of Club rowers, Kiara and Sadie pulled off one of the big upsets of the regatta, winning the gold medal in the Women's Club Double in spectacular form.

I can't wait for the whole squad to join forces again to represent their school in the up-and-coming South Island Secondary Schools regatta and then the "biggie'  Aon Maadi Cup regatta, where we look to 'make our mark' on our very own Lake Ruataniwha. Go Twizel!

Coaches,
Sarah and Kelvin
