Twizel Area School played host to the Defence Force Recruitment Visit this week and there was plenty of interest & enthusiasm among the students who attended.

A platoon of students (25) showed up for Monday’s Defence Force Visit, the largest number I can ever recall from hosting these Careers visits. We had three service personnel, 2 regulars and one from the Reserves. It was interesting listening to the servicemen talk about their personal journeys with their careers. The students were given a presentation on what to expect with Defence life; some of the over 100 jobs that exist within our Defence Force, pay, living and travelling aspects.

The presentation was not without a practical component and the servicemen had our students erect a makeshift shelter from poles and a camouflage tarp. This was a great chance for students to work together and all managed to make a reasonable temporary shelter.

Thank you to all students who came along to the presentation and to the New Zealand Defence Force who always take the time to come to our school to present.
