An introduction to 2023, plus reminders about School Buses, toys, assemblies, and more...

The year has begun with a bang and all of the students have been enjoying meeting their teachers and getting involved in learning.

We would like to welcome Miss Hooper and Miss Wise to the Junior Syndicate and Miss Sargeant to a full-time role this year. We also welcome all the new students across the Junior School. The students are enjoying getting to know their new teachers.

In Term 1 we require students to be wearing a wide-brimmed sun hat at appropriate times like playtimes, lunchtimes and when outside doing PE. Can you please ensure that your child has a named hat at school. Check out our uniform guidelines, which can be found on the Twizel Area School website: twizel.school.nz/our-school/uniform, and our Sun Protection Policy: https://bit.ly/sun-protection-policy

Term 1 is always a busy term with things like swimming, athletics, other sports and settling-in reports happening.  With swimming starting, students will need to bring their togs each day.

It is fabulous to see the students enjoying the lunchboxes full of healthy food. A reminder that there are to be no lollies or nuts in lunch boxes. This is for the safety of everyone.  At this time of year, it is good to have a full drink bottle of water to ensure your student stays hydrated.

Important dates

Wednesday 1st March | New Entrants Transition meeting

Friday 3rd March | Upper Waitaki Swimming Sports

Monday 6th March | Junior Swimming Display

Bus routines

We have some new bus routines which have been introduced this year. If you have a junior student on the bus it is important that they walk to the middle school courtyard to sign in for the bus.  Mr van M will do a bus roll and check that everyone is there for the bus before loading the bus ready to leave. If you have any changes to your student's bus timetable please phone the office.

Toys

Students from room 9 through to room 5 are asked to please leave their toys at home.  These can cause issues in class or the playground.

Picking up students after school

When you are collecting students after school, can you please ensure you collect them from the front entrance. This is important so that staff know that your student has been safely collected.

Junior Swimming display

The Junior school will be having a swimming display on Monday the 6th of March starting at 1:45pm. It would be great if you could join us.

Junior Assemblies

Junior assembly will start on Friday 17th February.  This will be in the theatre at the events centre at the same time as last year at 12 noon. Sometimes classes will share and sometimes they won’t depending on the work they have completed that week. Within the classes, some students will feel more comfortable sharing and others will not want to share just yet.

Stationery

If you are currently waiting for stationery to arrive can you let us know, so that we can arrange something for your students to use in the meantime.

Making appointments with teachers

If you would like to make an appointment with a teacher you should email them to organise a time. Please remember that sometimes we will require time to organise this with other teachers.
