Year 12 student Finn has a passion for computer programming and automation. He is fortunate to attend Meridian Energy as part of his Gateway experience and sit alongside programmers and automation engineers to see what his interest looks like in the real world.

One of the Meridian engineers created a hydroelectric dam gate structure model, and Finn brought this model to school to present to our middle school classes yesterday. He explained how the system controls the gate and water flow and how Meridian can control the gates manually and remotely through a computer. The students were able to play around with the model and ask questions. This was a great learning session for these students to see what happens behind the scenes in all the dams around Twizel.

Thank you to Meridian for allowing Finn to bring this model into school, and also, a big thank you to Finn for presenting to our classes in such a knowledgeable fashion.
