Welcome to the 2023 Twizel Netball Club Newsletter

We are looking forward to an exciting season to come. This year we are looking at having 8 teams playing from Years 3-13. The season will start for Juniors on Friday 28th April, and Seniors Saturday 29th April.

Netball games will be played in Oamaru, with the netball committee speaking to the school to arrange permission for our Year 3-8 players to leave school after lunch on a Friday.

At this stage we have:

  • 2 x Year 3-4 Teams coached by Kate Ivey
  • 2 x Year 5-6 Teams coached by Rebecca and Robert McIntyre
  • 2 x Year 7-8 Teams coached by Soffe Shaw and Emily Schaar
  • 2 x Year 9-13 teams coached by Sarah Henderson and Nicola Lyons

Parent help is going to be a major this year to be able to get our teams to Oamaru and commitment from players is a must.

We had our first AGM and committee meeting last week. Chelsea Lousley has stayed on as the president of the club again this year, Kat Burgess stepped down from secretary and this has now been taken on by Soffe Shaw. Krista Gilchrist has also stepped down as treasurer and much to our delight this role has been taken on by Sue Gardiner. Our committee this year is also looking strong and we are confident we can execute some good things for the club.

Registration

Registrations are now open and can be found following this link: https://www.sporty.co.nz/twizelnetball

This year we have also added the question “Are you available to drive the vans or private transport to and from netball games on either Friday or Saturday?”. This is due to us needing more parents to transport players to Oamaru so we can continue to attend games.

We have also asked for the size needed for our players' dresses. As many know we acquired some new netball dresses last year in collaboration with Twizel Area School, as we have had an influx of interest from new players this year we will be ordering new dresses, and want to ensure we can accommodate everyone with our sizes. Please make sure the registration form is completed by the 13th of March, registrations will be closed after this date.

Due to the number of students interested this year, we will be holding trials for the Years 9-13 girls as we will play two teams in separate grades. A trial form will be sent home with players where they can indicate which team they would prefer.

More information will be realised about this in the coming weeks. If you have any questions regarding this please speak to Chelsea directly.

When registering and selecting grades please choose their current year level. If they are Year 9 and above please select Senior A or Senior B and I can move them after grading.

Fundraising

As you have read above we are expanding our club from 5 teams to 8 which means we require more gear and transportation costs will be increased. We do require parents to help with this.

Our first fundraiser of the year is CADBURY CHOCOLATE BOXES, boxes have arrived! Once registered please collect one from the school office to sell :)

If you have any ideas about how our club can fundraise please get in contact via email.

Subs

Subs currently have not been set by the club as we await to see what North Otago will set as their entry fees. Once these have been released we will get the fee for this year sent to parents.

Practices

Practices will be set by coaches, they will be in contact once we have people registered and have had a meeting to establish if we have had the correct numbers sign up to be able to field two teams per age group, please don't expect contact until after 13th March.

Uniforms

Netball uniforms will be given out to players a week before the competition starts.

Hoodies will be available to purchase, however, we currently are looking at a few options that will last longer than previous hoodies. These will be at the players' cost.

Complaints or Concerns

If you have a problem or concern we ask that you put it in writing and email [email protected], or speak directly to Chelsea with your concerns. All complaints and concerns are taken seriously and the committee will decide what path we need to take.

Having these in writing helps us inform the correct people, whether it be North Otago Netball, coaches or parents with regards to what has happened. Thank you for your understanding
