Room 6 ākonga have been learning to use a variety of tools on Seesaw and how to log on and off by themselves using their individual QR Codes.

The students of Room 7 have been deeply engaged in learning about Matariki, the Māori New Year. This exploration has involved understanding the significance of each star (whetū) in the Matariki cluster, known as the Pleiades in English.

Last week, Twizel Area School enchanted audiences with its production of Seussical Jr. The show, staged over four nights, brought the magical world of Dr. Seuss to life through our students' vibrant portrayals of beloved characters. 🎭

Over the past couple of weeks, TAS students have travelled to Timaru to take part in the Aoraki Basketball and Netball tournaments, both ending with fantastic results!

Room 5 and 6 have begun to integrate Perceptual Motor Programs (PMP) into their everyday schooling, providing young akonga with a comprehensive approach to development. By nurturing sensory and motor skills, PMP enhances coordination and cognitive abilities, bolstering academic readiness.

Year 12 Student Cam Smith has recently made a great impact on his younger peers through the Gateway program, where he mentors them in the essential skills of teamwork and the game of Dodgeball. 🏐

Last weekend, Head Student Finn McKinley was recently lucky enough to be selected from close to 100 applicants to be a part of ten Year 12 and 13 students who attended the Royal Astronomical Society of New Zealand’s yearly conference in Nelson as part of the Students With A Passion for Astronomy (SWAPA) program.

Room 13 students have been doing a series of team building activities. Last Tuesday the students had to build the tallest stable tower from marshmallows and kebab sticks! 🍡

On Thursday evening, we welcomed Emily Pearce from Massey University who spoke to Year 1 to 8 whānau about Developing Mathematical Inquiry Communities (DMIC).

On Monday, two of our Year 13 students travelled to Dunedin to be part of the Otago Tertiary Day, taking the opportunity to look at the courses on offer and to get an inside working view of the Otago University, Otago Polytechnic and the Halls of Residence.

M4 students have spent several weeks planning and practising for a morning tea they made and presented to the staff this past Friday.

Twizel Area School proudly turned pink and participated in Pink Shirt Day, a national initiative against bullying. Students and staff wore pink clothing, a symbol of standing together for a positive and inclusive school environment.

The Southern Area Schools Tournament is a pinnacle event on TAS's sports calendar. This year, our journey led us to Tuatapere at Waiau Area School, where 30 students showcased their talents across various sports over three days.
