Ākonga from Rooms 7 & 8 joined together on Wednesday to celebrate the year and spend some time together. 🥳 They had a blowing-up-a-balloon race, balloon races, running races, shared kai, including popcorn, hot chips and bread, and a wee treat in the afternoon! 🎈 🏃🏼‍♂️ 🍿

Just a reminder that tomorrow, Friday 11th November, is the rearranged South Canterbury Anniversary Day, meaning that school will be closed. Enjoy your long weekend, let's hope for some nice weather and we will see you all on Monday!

Room 5 ākonga, along with Ms McAuley, Karatī Metcalfe and Bevan Newlands battled the Spring weather last week, but a good time was definitely had by all. 🏕 💨 😎 Even with plans having to be shifted, everyone came back with a story to tell and a smile on their face!

This week, Mrs Staniford received some persuasive writing letters from Room 7 ākonga. They ranged from wishing for a school disco, and bringing your 'wheels' to school, to wearing your slippers in class! 🪩 🛴 🥿 However, Mrs Staniford's reply surprised everyone!

Schools from around the region, including Duntroon, Kurow and Omarama, came together in Twizel on Friday last week for the Upper Waitaki Athletics Day. 🏃🏼‍♂️ 👟 There were some great results from Twizel Area School students, several of which are going to compete in the NOPSSA Athletics in Oamaru. 👍

Congratulations to Yug Thapa on his selection for the 2022 Southern Primary Schools Tennis Championship on Friday 14th November in Dunedin. 🎾 This is a tremendous honour with only 6 players (3 boys & 3 girls) per Southern Association selected in each category - plus one wild card. 👍

Room 13 ākonga have continued their Antarctic topic this week, learning about penguins for their 'Read and Make', and also planning their very special map! 🐧🧊📍

Congratulations goes to Twizel Area School kaiako Sandy Nelson for making the shortlist for the New Zealand Society of Authors Te Puni Kaituhi o Aotearoa (NZSA) Heritage Book Awards 2022 with her short prose, Mum’s Mistake. ✍️📚

Five Year 12 and 13 students spent two days kayaking from Sailors Cutting through to Ohau C, with an overnight on Whanau Island this week. 🚣‍♀️ 🏞 The students planned the trip and the risk management themselves, going towards two NCEA Achievement Standards.

We welcomed the St John in Schools programme to Twizel Area School this week. Ākonga in Years 1-8 have learned things including how to make an emergency call and how to perform effective CPR. 🚑 The programme has been developed with expertise from ACC, SafeKids Aotearoa, Civil Defence, CORE Education and St John and supports today’s school curriculum.

Monday this week was Dress-Up Day at Twizel Area School. Tamariki, rangatahi and kaiako were encouraged to dress in whatever costume, outfit or clothes they desired...all for the good cause of KidsCan New Zealand.

Science teacher Denise Arkless is planning to start a group that goes out after school on Thursdays this term and term 1 in 2023 to work on wilding pine removal. 🌲🌲🌲 Check out the details here...

Arts in Action week concluded on Friday last week with a Dance Performance in the Community Events Centre. 💃 🎨 It was great to see so many community and whānau members there to support our tamariki, I'm sure you'll agree they did an awesome job! 🙌
