Following Monday's Teacher Only Day, Maths has been at the forefront of Primary teaching this week. From the New Entrant Room 7 class, all the way up to Year 8, it's time to get excited about Twizel Area School's DMIC (Developing Mathematical Inquiry Communities) Maths programme! 🧮

Lily Brophy and Louie Skinner were both acknowledged for their all-round performance with Student Awards at last week's Area Schools Conference. They received their awards at an assembly in front of Year 7-13 students, this week.

This week saw the Year 7/8 netballers take part in the Netty Festival at Dunedin's Edgar Centre. It was a great day with a lot of fun to be had and an extra special prize at the end!

Last week we welcomed back whānau members to our weekly Junior Assembly that will once again be held in the theatre at the Community Centre. We look forward to seeing you there!

Ākonga from Room 5 have this week been researching Taieke Pukurakau who lived most of his life on the Waitaki. He used mōkihi to travel the Waitaki and the students have been researching and answering the questions about mōkihi.

Yesterday was PJ Day at Twizel Area School, all in aid of raising money for Monique's Young Enterprise Scheme Gold Tiki project. It was awesome to see the TAS whānau supporting a fabulous fundraiser and the perfect excuse to wear your PJs all day!

Room 5 ākonga made it to Tekapo Springs for their ice skating day on Tuesday, although they still had to dodge a few rain showers. Ms McAuley said, "we only got rained on for 20 minutes"! Room 8 were also at Tekapo this week for their rescheduled trip. ❄️ ⛸ 🥶

On Tuesday approximately 70 Year 1-8 students, along with their support crew of parents and teachers, attended the Waitaki Valley Cross Country at the Sales Yards at Omarama Station. All students ran extremely well and were incredible ambassadors for our school.

The Twizel Junior netball teams wrapped up their their season last weekend, while the Senior team heads to finals. It's been a great year and a relief to have a full season, especially after 2021!

Once again Twizel Junior Snow Club has been invited to compete at the Mackenzie Ski Race Day, on Thursday 1st September at Roundhill Ski Field. This event will replace Junior Ski Club on that day.

This week, M1 students were lucky enough to have a korero via Zoom with Te Haunui Tuna from Ngai Tūhoe. His journey in art and illustration began when he was just three years old and he went on to graduate from Te Kuratini o Waikato with a Bachelor in Media Arts. Truly inspiring!

Ākonga in M4 has been researching and preparing debates over the last few weeks as part of their 'social dilemmas' unit. The moot for this particular debate was: 'The Internet is a Curse'.

M1 ākonga have been learning some new technology skills this week! They used their iPads to create Stop Motion movies to explain scientific terms they have been learning in class. 🎥 🧑‍🔬

Last week‘s Junior Assembly was the final week before we are welcoming parents back, we can’t wait to see you at the Community Centre! Ka pai to all our learners who showed off their awesome work and to the teachers too!

Room 8 students have been exploring 'Stomp', a well-known group who love to make rhythm using all kinds of unusual, often household, items eg brooms, plungers, matches, and newspapers.

After a 2 year hiatus, the 2022 Aoraki Secondary Schools Skiing and Snowboard Championships were held this week at Mount Dobson.
