Five Year 12 and 13 students spent two days kayaking from Sailors Cutting through to Ohau C, with an overnight on Whanau Island this week. 🚣‍♀️ 🏞 The students planned the trip and the risk management themselves, going towards two NCEA Achievement Standards.

We welcomed the St John in Schools programme to Twizel Area School this week. Ākonga in Years 1-8 have learned things including how to make an emergency call and how to perform effective CPR. 🚑 The programme has been developed with expertise from ACC, SafeKids Aotearoa, Civil Defence, CORE Education and St John and supports today’s school curriculum.

Monday this week was Dress-Up Day at Twizel Area School. Tamariki, rangatahi and kaiako were encouraged to dress in whatever costume, outfit or clothes they desired...all for the good cause of KidsCan New Zealand.

Science teacher Denise Arkless is planning to start a group that goes out after school on Thursdays this term and term 1 in 2023 to work on wilding pine removal. 🌲🌲🌲 Check out the details here...

Arts in Action week concluded on Friday last week with a Dance Performance in the Community Events Centre. 💃 🎨 It was great to see so many community and whānau members there to support our tamariki, I'm sure you'll agree they did an awesome job! 🙌

This week has seen a successful return for Art in Action to Twizel Area School for a week of art and art-related activities today, including painting, printmaking and dance. 🎨 👩‍🎨 💃 We have enjoyed Highland Dance, Jump Jam & Waiata lunchtime performances and we're all looking forward to the Dance Performance tomorrow.

Ākonga in Room 13 have started their Term 4 Antarctic topic in icy fashion this week. ❄️ ⛴ 🐧 They learned about the Endurance shipwreck that was found in Antarctica in March this year and created some fantastic shipwreck artwork!

Arts in Action returns to Twizel Area School next week with a timetable full, including dance, printmaking, painting and more. 💃 🎨 🎭 There are also several performances the school community is invited to watch.
