Room 8 students have been having fun learning about rhythm and sound by beating out patterns on the drum/bucket, using sticks kindly crafted by Mr Van M. 🥁 🪘

Ka pai to everyone who showed off their amazing work at last week's Junior Assembly and for the awesome mahi you show, displaying your WAKA values.🤩 Students also celebrated those who competed in the Upper Waitaki Athletics, and those selected to represent TAS at Otago.🏃🏼‍♂️

Two groups of students have visited the Puketeraki Marae in the last week. Year 7-10 students visited last week and Junior students this week, where they joined ākonga from Roxburgh Area school, Maniototo Area School and Lawrence Area School.

On Thursday 17th November, ākonga from Rooms 9 and 13 headed to Aoraki Mount Cook, having been learning about Antarctica and Antarctica's link to Aoraki in class. It was a great day and it sounds like everyone had an awesome time in the National Park.🏔️

Ākonga in Room 8 have been learning about patterns and relationships this week, creating repeating patterns using a variety of blocks. Students participated in a class Dinosaur Challenge to show a repeated pattern using colours. 🦖 🦕

M1 ākonga were finally able to go on their long-awaited, COVID disrupted camp last week. They were treated to superb weather, and they even encountered snow along the way! You can read Year 7 student Paige Firman's recount of the week here...

Junior School ākonga enjoyed a visit from Helen Hamblin of the Kea Conservation Trust last week to share some information about Kea with us. She shared lots of great ways we can help Kea and we learned how dangerous lead can be for Kea. 🦜

Ākonga from M4, along with Mr and Mrs Potter visited Cromwell this week, with the aim to deepen students' understanding of the consequences of the 1860’s gold discoveries in Otago. ⛏️ 🌟 Their itinerary was filled with trips to the Cromwell Museum and Goldfields Mining Centre, and they even panned for their own gold! The Science Roadshow was in full swing this week, with ākonga from Year 4-10 enjoying the ride. 🧫 🔬 👩‍🔬 Students were able to enjoy lots of hands-on exhibits with themes ranging from astronomy to ecology, the environment, and the human lab.

Continuing with their Antarctic topic for this term, Antarctic Explorer Sean Brooks came and spoke to Room 13 ākonga about his 9 trips to Antarctica and South Georgia Island. 🐧

Last Thursday the Wilding Pine Club had a successful first afternoon with four awesome helpers going out with Science teacher Denise Arkless to work on wilding pine removal. 🌲🌲🌲 Ka pai to the tamariki involved in this very important work!

Ākonga from Rooms 7 & 8 joined together on Wednesday to celebrate the year and spend some time together. 🥳 They had a blowing-up-a-balloon race, balloon races, running races, shared kai, including popcorn, hot chips and bread, and a wee treat in the afternoon! 🎈 🏃🏼‍♂️ 🍿
