In Term Two our Year 8 ākonga (M2) learned about a Māori wahine from the Lake Kaniere / Hokitika area who travelled alone over Ka Tiritiri Ka Te Moana the Southern Alps, discovering a pass that became known as Nōti Raureka and later as Browning Pass.

This week is Netsafety Week with this year's theme being Diversity Matters | Online Safety Done Together. There are a variety of events happening around Aotearoa and online, inparticular a Parent and Caregivers' Webinar about TikTok safety and social media.

The National Area Schools Tournament was held in Whangārei during the school holidays with 9 TAS students attending, accompanied by Chelsea, Karatī and Mark. The students represented Twizel Area School with pride during the 4 days of competition, showing their WAKA values while doing so!

Year 7 student William Newlands was fortunate to be chosen to attend the Young Inspiring Explorers Summit in Christchurch last month. The summit saw 20 Year 7-9 students from across the country spend the weekend with the Antarctic Heritage Trust and Kiwi explorer William Pike.

Trying something new pushes us out of our comfort zones. And while some of us ned more of a push than others, the benefits are universal.

Otago Polytechnic and the University of Otago are holding their Open Days for 2022 on Sunday 31st July and Monday 1st August. The Open Days will have academic presentations and activities, residential college tours, as well as lots of displays and activities from University clubs and services.

Room 5 ākonga have been busy with their co2 car project this term and Friday last week was Race Day, with every student taking on important roles at the event from Security through to Race Starters! 🏎 🏁

This Term, Room 7 and 8 ākonga have been involved in the Get Firewise Programme for Year 1 and 2 students. They were fortunate enough to get a visit from The Twizel Fire Brigade last week to learn about fire safety in their homes. 🚒 👩‍🚒

Twizel Area School ākonga and pouako turned a grey, winter's day into all the colours of the rainbow today while celebrating inclusion, equality, kindness and diversity. Students came together to show solidarity for each other, no matter who you are or where you are from! 🌈

Our students' sporting success doesn't stop when they step outside the school gates. From netball to aerobics, Twizel Area School is always proud of our students' achievements win, lose or draw!
