Following the disruption to schools due to the COVID-19 Lockdown and subsequent alert level changes, the Student Representative Elections for the Board of Trustees has been extended.

During our Alert Levels 4 and 3 the school distributed a significant number of our school owned iPads, Chromebooks and Laptops. We hope they assisted our learners in remaining connected to their learning programmes, teachers and peers.

Te Wiki o Te Reo Māori (Māori Language Week) has been recognised in Aotearoa since 1975. It’s an official week on our national calendar to honour, celebrate and promote te reo Māori.

As part of our learning about Te Ao Māori, Room 4 students have been studying whakataukī (proverbs), learning their meanings and then illustrating each one.

Students in Room 13 have been learning about different cultures around the world, How they celebrate and the important features of their countries.

Please remind yourselves of the Delta Alert Level 2 information including the key differences from past Level 2 and general principles that we should all be aware of.

This lockdown has been an interesting hiccup for the Board. Our fourth meeting has had to be postponed and we missed out on some professional development when the Area Schools Conference was cancelled. But, in the scheme of things, these were very minor and recoverable.

One thing that is persistently challenging for parents in lockdown is the need to split our time between everyone in our bubble, while still meeting the incessant demands of the day. And it’s a need that comes with a side order of guilt, if we’re not careful.

As Lockdown continues, students of all ages from TAS have found new and increasingly imaginative ways to keep themselves entertained, while their creativity knows no bounds in the confines of lockdown.

M2 has been learning how to create Arcade Games during their Zoom class and watching videos. They are using block code in Microsoft MakeCode Arcade which is available free to anyone.

Otago Museum's Digital Museum is filled with lockdown distractions including colouring, baking and many other creations to take away lockdown blues!

Year 13 student Kaydin Ryan hosted a General Knowledge Quiz for some of our keen senior students on Wednesday Evening.

The N4L (Network for Learning) Switch on Safety filter was launched during Aotearoa’s first Level 4 lockdown in response to the COVID-19 pandemic, and it remains available for whānau to continue to use to keep their children safe online.
