It's Mental Health Awareness Week and this year’s theme is: Take time to kōrero/mā te kōrero, ka ora - a little chat can go a long way. 0800 What's Up have put together some resources to help tamariki and rangatahi cope through difficult situations and emotions, like when they are feeling down or anxious.

It is with sincere regret that the school recognises Stevie Douglas’s desire to retire from teaching after a long and dedicated career as new entrant teacher at Twizel Area School. Stevie in her forty years plus has taught many of our Twizel community members.

We are in the fortunate position that we will be designing a completely new school for our learners. This process is lengthy and does not go unsupported by the Ministry of Education and other specialists such as architects and project managers.

The number of people vaping is on the rise and more and more products are coming onto the market that appeal to younger people.

Room 13 students have been doing some artwork that we had planned to do earlier in the term. We have been looking at the Olympic Pictograms, creating a background using different shades from the same colour. The students made a range of shapes and lines with their pencil and coloured each area a different shade.

Twizel Kindergarten are collecting bread tags for recycling. They will go to an awesome charity to help buy wheelchairs for people in South Africa. If you'd like to donate your used breadtags, you can either drop them here at school (for us to pass on) or at the Twizel Kindergarten.

In week 7, M1 students made scientific stop motion animations. They used a spinning wheel to choose their groups and each group had to choose a category that their stop motion would be about.

To celebrate Te Wiki o te Reo Māori, Mātua Karatī and head student Daniel Hunter have created a series of videos to bring together the Māori language and the place we call home, Te Manahuna.

Following the disruption to schools due to the COVID-19 Lockdown and subsequent alert level changes, the Student Representative Elections for the Board of Trustees has been extended.

During our Alert Levels 4 and 3 the school distributed a significant number of our school owned iPads, Chromebooks and Laptops. We hope they assisted our learners in remaining connected to their learning programmes, teachers and peers.

Te Wiki o Te Reo Māori (Māori Language Week) has been recognised in Aotearoa since 1975. It’s an official week on our national calendar to honour, celebrate and promote te reo Māori.

As part of our learning about Te Ao Māori, Room 4 students have been studying whakataukī (proverbs), learning their meanings and then illustrating each one.

Students in Room 13 have been learning about different cultures around the world, How they celebrate and the important features of their countries.
