In line with the Human Rights Commission release of their School Uniform Guidelines, the Board of Twizel Area School would like to review our uniform and related policies. The survey is open to all Parents/Caregivers, Students & Staff, and will close at 9 am on Monday, July 4th.

The Board would like to update the community on a number of items happening at school.

Twizel, and the surrounding areas, was turned into a winter wonderland this week and the Twizel Area School ākonga made the most of it while the snow hung around.

Letting your child have their own social media account is about giving them control of their own online presence. It is essential that they learn how to navigate this at some point in their life. The big question is when.

Room 13 ākonga have visited the new mural being painted in the Twizel Market Place by international street artist Koryu Aoshima and were amazed by the 33-metre long artwork.

Tickets are still available for the National Area Schools Raffle with some spectacular prizes up for grabs. From a spa to a skydive, to bed, breakfast & dinner at The Hermitage...plus heaps more, with all the money raised helping our selected Area Schools Tournament students to travel & compete at the National Tournament in Whāngarei.

Twizel Area School students have, once again, competed with the best of the best at the SGCNZ University of Otago Sheilah Winn National Shakespeare Festival in Wellington and proved that our little Area School can be just as successful.

Ākonga in Room 7 have been focusing on spending a little bit of their time during the day to work on their self-regulation. Room 13 introduced them to 'M3 Mindfulness'. The 3 M's stand for Māori stories, mindfulness and movement.

Next week, we will be sending letters out to families whose learners are becoming ‘at risk’ because of low attendance.

How can parents meet the needs of their kids, while at the same time teaching them responsibility so that down the track they can ‘fly the nest’ as competent young adults, capable of meeting their own needs?

M1 and M2 ākonga have finished creating their videos! These videos show the procedure that police follow when a crime as been committed, and has taught students some cool new digital skills.

Ākonga in M2 are currently working on a unit coding Microbits. Microbits are pocket-sized computers that help introduce students to how software and hardware work together.

We are proud to announce Monique as not only Twizel Area School's first Young Enterprise Scheme (YES) representative, but the sole entry from TAS this year.

During the last year or two, many of us discovered what our children, and especially our teenagers, had known for a long time – technology, and social media in particular, is a great way to stay connected with others and to maintain, and even strengthen, relationships.
