Te Rā o Pāpā was celebrated at last week's Junior Assembly with students showing off the cards they had made for their loved ones. Thank you to all the caregivers and whānau members who come to support our students' learning!

Last Sunday, seven students left Twizel accompanied by Chelsea and Clare Frost to travel to Timaru to take part in the South Island Secondary School Netball Tournament.

With our senior students sitting their mock exams next week, here are some tips for rangatahi to manage themselves before exams and on the day of their exams. Also how parents can help and where to get help if you need it.

Twizel Area School has been chosen to benefit from receiving a CoDriVR simulation pod later this year that will take students through modules as they approach their different licensing levels. Working in tandem with the TPDA Work Readiness Programme which has a Learner License Module, it looks like we’ll be getting our young people road ready with ease!

This week, eleven Twizel Area School students (across Years 4-8) competed in the North Otago Primary School Cross Country in Oamaru. Congratulation to everyone who ran, you did yourself and your school very proud. Ka pai!

The Room 9 class shared book is currently 'Little House in the Big Woods'. In this book the family make their own butter, so with Mrs Mullon's help, ākonga were able to make and taste their very own butter! 🧈

Jump Jam on Monday Lunch time is still a big hit for all ages within the school! Miss McAuley and Miss Smith have loved seeing the children showing an immense amount of enthusiasm and participation towards the jump-jam lunches!

There was a hive of excitement in Room 13 this week when Tarsh Bell from Mackenzie Country Honey visited as part of their Mahika Kai learning. 🐝 🍯

The Junior Snow Club was invited to compete in the Mackenzie Ski Race Day, organised by Tekapo School, on Thursday 1st September. This event has been 3 years in the waiting, and so good to finally get some action happening. ⛷

Why is resilience important? What does it look like to bring up resilient tamariki? And what can resilience offer our tamariki in terms of living confidently in a culturally diverse context?

This week, six Middle school students have been recording their online Twizel Area School entry for the Rockshop BandQuest 2022.

On Thursday a vanload of Y9-13 students took part in a Humanities Day in Cromwell with students from our Kāhui Ako schools, aiming to connect students while celebrating the arts.

This September, ākonga from Rooms 5 and 7 are raising money for the Asthma and Respiratory Foundation. They will be Jump Jamming daily, and you can donate to a worthwhile cause here! Let's support them!

Take a moment to act for nature this Conservation Week. 🏞 Conservation Week 2022 focuses on how we can take action for nature, there are some Twizel-based activities you and your whānau can get involved in.

This term, Room 9 are learning about how people and animals adapt to winter. They are studying about migration and hibernation, and how different animals cope with the winter months!

Ākonga in Room 13 had a visit from Mel Schauer from Meridian Energy, this week. She came to talk to us about tuna and how they use the hīnaki to trap and transfer the tuna. 🐟

Ākonga in M1 and M2 have completed their Power Challenge this week. After designing and building their own windmills, students were tasked with powering as many lights as possible! 💡
