A Successful 'Arts in Action' Week

October 26, 2022

This week has seen a successful return for Art in Action to Twizel Area School for a week of art and art-related activities today, including painting, printmaking and dance. 🎨 👩‍🎨 💃 We have enjoyed Highland Dance, Jump Jam & Waiata lunchtime performances and we're all looking forward to the Dance Performance tomorrow.

Room 13 Students Get Icy!

Ākonga in Room 13 have started their Term 4 Antarctic topic in icy fashion this week. ❄️ ⛴ 🐧 They learned about the Endurance shipwreck that was found in Antarctica in March this year and created some fantastic shipwreck artwork!

Arts in Action 2022

Arts in Action returns to Twizel Area School next week with a timetable full, including dance, printmaking, painting and more. 💃 🎨 🎭 There are also several performances the school community is invited to watch.

NZ Uniforms New Timaru Store Opening

A new NZ Uniforms store is coming to Timaru, opening on 31st October. This will certainly make things a little easier for us in Twizel with the Twizel Area School uniform stock being moved closer, if you wish to purchase from a physical store rather than online.

Prizegiving Trophies

National Schools Shakespeare Performance 2022

Head students, Louie and Lily were selected to take part in the National Schools Shakespeare Performance for 2022 in Dunedin during the school holidays. They joined students from all over New Zealand in a week-long intensive course, studying aspects of Shakespeare’s works and three of his plays in particular under the direction of leading directors.

Puketeraki Marae Visit

Rowing, It's a Twizel Thing!

Students get a Taste of Life in Antarctica

Last week ākonga in Rooms 13, 5 and M2 took part in some Zoom sessions with Dan from Antarctica. Dan showed us what it was like outside Scott Base by putting a camera outside during our Zoom, while the students had lots of questions about what he does and what happens in Antarctica. 🥶 🐧

M4 Flatting Challenge

M4 ākonga have been working on a 'Flatting Challenge' over the past few weeks - they organised themselves into flatting groups and had to plan and budget for 4 dinner meals, including being able to buy the essentials for their flat such as toilet paper, cleaning supplies and breakfast food.

Wellbeing @ School

At the start of this term, our students participated in the NZCER (New Zealand Centre of Educational Research) Wellbeing at School Survey. Our school, like many around New Zealand, participates in this survey every second year (or more often if relevant). For the first time, our staff also participated in a staff-centred survey.
