Drama is about exploring the world you know, the world the way it could be and the world the way it was. It also allows you to develop your performance and leadership skills. When you study Drama at Twizel Area School, you will gain the confidence to express yourself verbally and physically while learning through doing and having fun.

Junior Festival

Drama is a well-supported subject at Twizel Area School. Senior students can study Drama as an NCEA subject for Levels 1 – 3 and for a scholarship, if applicable. Middle School Students also have the opportunity to take Drama as an optional subject.

Each year, our students participate in the Sheilah Winn University of Otago Shakespeare Festivals. Students have performed at National Level (usually in Wellington) eight times in the last ten years.

Every second-year interested Year 1-13 students are involved in a production that runs for three nights in our local theatre and the Twizel Community enthusiastically looks forward to these events. In the alternate years, Year 1-6 students participate in the Junior Drama Festival. This is performed for parents and the community late in Term 2. Teachers over the years have noticed increased confidence in our students’ abilities to perform in front of an audience.
