Rowing is entrenched into the DNA of Twizel, with Lake Ruataniwha and the South Island Rowing Centre situated adjacent to the Twizel township.

It is one of New Zealand’s most successful Olympic Sports and a fantastic sport to get involved in that teaches our students discipline, commitment and teamwork, showing our WAKA values of Whānaukataka, Awhinataka, Kaitiakitaka, and Ārahi.

Maadi

Twizel rowers are lucky enough to be able to train at Lake Ruataniwha, the venue for all major South Island Regattas throughout the year. Being able to do this certainly gives them an advantage that other rowing teams don't have, and that advantage has paid off with successful 2022/23 and 2023/24 seasons.

Ruataniwha Rowing

We welcome rangatahi from Year 8 through to Year 13 to join our rowing whānau with the competitive rowing season in Term 1 & 4 and a lighter winter training schedule over the cooler months.

The Twizel Rowing Team is coached by Kelvin Maker and Sarah Henderson
