Term 1 | Week 3
Kia ora e te whānau,

I hope this newsletter finds you well?

** REMINDER - Staff in the senior school have a Paid Union Meeting from 12.30 pm until the end of the school day on Friday 25th February. All students in M1 and above e.g. Year 7-13 will be released from school at 12.30 pm on Friday 25th, buses will not run until the normal time at the end of the school day. If you require supervision at school for your child, please call the office to let us know. **

We’ve enjoyed yet another busy week at school. Swimming sessions are back on for all age groups - we did experience a bit of a ‘hiccup’ whilst negotiating unrestricted access for our students aged 12 years, 3 months and above, but this is now resolved.

I’d like to take this opportunity to congratulate Nyree Schaar - she has been successful in securing our position of Middle School Dean. She will now be one of the points of contact for parents with students in M1-M4.

Our Strategic Plan for 2022-2024, and the 2021 Analysis of Variance are now available on our school website.

We’ve noticed that some of our students are, understandably, experiencing rising anxiety as the cases of COVID-19 in New Zealand increase, and confirmed cases and close contacts creep closer to Twizel. Support is available if your child is affected. You can contact the office to arrange an appointment for your child with our school counsellor when he next visits if required. I’m guessing the feeling within the student community is reflected within our wider community. It is important, at times like these, we consider how our talk at home impacts our young people. Keeping information to the facts, and not engaging with rumour helps our young people to gain a sense of calm.

Please know, when we have the need to communicate a confirmed case in our community, we will be following the Ministry of Education/Health processes and communication requirements. This also applies to any other ‘unexpected event’ at school. I have been told there was a rumour circulating in the community last weekend that a student had been abducted from school - I can confirm this did not happen and is a completely fabricated story.

A quote for some thought this week -  “In the midst of movement and chaos, keep stillness inside of you”, Deepak Chopra.
